Making the project’s final year matter: the Green Trail Concept team meets in the Pyrenees

Green Trail Concept celebrated its third Consortium Meeting in March 2025

This past week, the Green Trail Concept team travelled to Pi (Bellver de Cerdanya), in the Pyrenees Mountains, Spain, for the final planning and preparations as we race our way through the final year of the project! There, we were met with breathtaking views, a whirlwind of weather, and a warm welcome from our hosts at the Kilian Jornet Foundation.

Soon after arriving, we laced up our boots and made our way to the nearby trails to learn about the local biodiversity and current practices to preserve the environment. Over the 3 days spent in Pi, we also had the opportunity to try out local delicacies and support the businesses found in this mountain community. 

Green Trail Concept in 2025 

2025 is a crucial year for the Green Trail Concept project, as we will be finalising the Certification Tool by testing it at two events: Österlen Spring Trail in Sweden and Zegama Aizkorri in Spain. In addition to that, we’re also working on a documentary about trail running, the Green Trail Concept tool, and the need for sustainability to ensure that this sport can continue for generations to come. 

The future of Green Trail Concept 

This space allowed the team to discuss the future of the project beyond 2025. How will the Green Trail Concept Certification continue and evolve? Several options are being considered at this point, and we welcome input from organisations and other groups that are interested in seeing the tool thrive after this “incubation” phase ends.  

What’s next? 

Our time in Pi was not only productive, but also inspiring, bringing new energy to the team and preparing us for an intense but satisfying end to the project. Thanks to our hosts, and we look forward to meeting again at the end of 2025 in Norway for our final Consortium Meeting!
