The Green Trail Concept project is ramping up its outreach efforts around Europe over the next 6 months, from round tables to film festivals! Will we see you at one of these events?
Arendalsuka – 12 August
Arendalsuka is Norway’s largest annual political gathering, held since 2012. Its main goal is to promote democracy and civic engagement through open discussions and inclusive participation.
Green Trail Concept partners GRID-Arendal and the Kilian Jornet Foundation (KJF) will be hosting the event Sports for nature: can competition inspire conservation? on Tuesday, 12th August at 13.00-13.50 in GRID-Arendal’s backyard. This session will feature the participation of Kilian Jornet, elite runner as well as president and founder of the Kilian Jornet Foundation.
This debate will explore the growing tension between outdoor sports and nature conservation. In Norway, national parks and wild spaces are often framed as open arenas for recreation and sports. However, as sports events increase in scale and frequency, so does their ecological footprint. Can athletes, organisers, and environmental advocates come together to ensure sport respects the very landscapes it celebrates?
Moderator: Karen Martinez-Swatson – Senior Expert, GRID-Arendal
Panelists:
- Kilian Jornet – President, Kilian Jornet Foundation
- Jenny Marie Gulbrandsen – Raet National Park manager, Statsforvalteren Agder
- Fred Arthur Asdal – Organiser, Hove Triathlon event
- Preben Falck – Managing Director, Stavanger Turistforening, DNT, The Norwegian Trekking Association
- Mar Fabres – Youth voice, Hove Tri participant
UTMB Week
